After reading the old testament and studying the relationship between God and the Israelite’s for the past three months, the more I recognized how faithful God is. It was not because the Israelite’s were faithful but in-spite of their disobedience and unfaithfulness, God remained faithful to them.
I’m not saying that faith or living in faithfulness doesn’t matter to God. Or it doesn’t mean that we can use His faithfulness as a license to abuse Him.
The point I am making is that the Lord will remain faithful in spite of us, because that’s who He is. He is committed to fulfill His promises not because we are faithful but because He is faithful.
Have you ever experience people who asked for an advise because they were in a complicated situation? Of course you tell them good principles that might help them. However, after the conversation, some of them went out and for many reasons did the exact opposite of what you have said and that of course can worsen their situation.
After quite some time they realized that they made a wrong decision, they cried, and went back to you asking for an advise again. So you do the same by guiding or telling them the right way. The sad part was, when some of them, out of their weakness or maybe rebelliousness will again disobey and choose a different path.
Most of the people who are giving an advise will respond in this situation, shaking their heads and will say “Well, there’s nothing I can do for you anymore, in the first place if you did just listen and obey it may not probably happen”. With our human tendency we give up on them. Though of course I understand that most of the time our reasons to do that are valid.
But you know what? Here’s what I realize, I thank God that He is not like that, He is not like us, because our God will never ever give up with His people. He will remain faithful till the end and He will finish the good work He started. God sees our weaknesses and mistakes, He will not tolerate and He will surely discipline, but no matter what He will not give up on anybody or anyone! God will not stop fighting for His people until we believe that He is the answer to all our problems, that He is our only source of hope, and that He alone is the one whom we really need in our lives.
In terms of our relationship with Him, it is not God who gives up on us, it is us. It is us who walks away, it is us who believes in the lies of the enemy that God doesn’t love us anymore, that He cannot forgive us, and there’s no more hope for us.
But in the Bible, God already told us that He is faithful and will remain faithful, “if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)
He already told us that He can and is willing to forgive, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
Jesus already paid it all at the cross so that we can be cleansed and be saved.
The question is, will we come to Him for forgiveness? Will we come to Him to find hope and strength to try again? Will we come surrender all our lives to Him?
Friends, if we will just only know, that when we go back or when we keep coming back to Him, He is still the same Father, God, and Savior who is willing to give us new life and who is willing to embrace and love us again and again.
That’s His faithfulness. We may not be able to fully comprehend and explain it, but we can truly believe and experience it. Come to Him now. Our God is forever faithful.
